How do Liberals Think
Okay, I know I am way out on a limb here making judgments from a very complex and for the most part intelligent group of people. As an exercise in critical thinking, indulge me for a moment, we may find common DNA that drives us to do or not do many seemingly strange things that on examination are actually quite logical.
There is an inherent curiosity in viewing disasters…as long as it is not our disaster. Whether this be a roadside auto accident, a grisly murder in the street, or raging floodwaters from a hurricane, internet posters live off the clicks and media outlets serve this up as the very generator of life sustaining funding. The fascination only comes on our terms; for we are not the victims and we can look away any time. As soon as we have had our fix, we can turn away and resume our lives and not give the plight of others a second thought. Or maybe if we are feeling righteous we can render some aid or send some money.
We need to be entertained. We occasionally need to see the suffering of others to feel more secure about our own challenges. The central theme here is that we are not really motivated to do anything to change the lives of others. As the current version of man, we are great at BSing ourselves into doing the things we should not do or not doing things that we should do. Translating this into the real world politics we can convince ourselves we are righteous by including ourselves in tribal groups where everyone affirms everyone else. It may be nonsense but if everyone is saying it is true, then it is very easy to believe that it is true.
So let’s just mind our own business and let others succeed or fail…suffer or not suffer. It’s not our responsibility, the hell with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, since we started walking upright we banded together for survival and competed as a group with other groups for everything we needed to succeed. The tribe now is different but the principle is he same. It certainly is more complicated than a Neanderthal walking past a fellow Neanderthal wounded by a predator. There are risks but there is always the moral judgment that has to be dealt with if you don’t stop to help. So you assess the situation. What are the risks? What are the benefits? So maybe you stop and render aid. Maybe you don’t
The modern world is far more complex not only for the 24-7 news cycle but also because your tribal affiliations change. At one time America was a tribe; however, now with our divisive politics, the tribe is more clearly defined as right or left. In 2024 you can almost get away with murder if the attempt comes in “defense of democracy”. You do not see leaders on the right calling for violence. But just go online and watch Maxine Watters, Joe Biden, Chuck Shumar, and Hillary Clinton inciting their followers to do almost anything to “save democracy”. No one seems curious how you “save democracy” by jailing or attempting to assassinate opposition leaders.

This is, of course, nonsense; however, the peer pressure is immense to conform. But there is a price to pay as the tribe blindly follows these leaders and that is complicity. You are responsible for what you do or don’t do. So don’t tell me as a New Yorker who voted for Adams and Biden that you are angry now that illegal aliens are destroying your city. You are complicit. You did it to yourself.
Or maybe you are Barack Obama who served for eight years as president and never did a thing then or now to help the black community in Chicago. Obama and everyone in that city and state government is complicit in every murder, every drug overdose, and every black kid that can’t get a decent education. Nothing virtous here as Barack sips his wine in his 15 million dollar beach side mansion.
Biden, Harris, and Mayorkas have been very accomplished in their virtue signaling about our closed and very secure border. They are complicit and in fact directly responsible for every murder committed by an illegal alien, every one of the over 300,000 kids that are lost and may now be trafficked, and the 250,000 fentanyl deaths that occurred as a result of their policies in dealing with China and the cartels. If you continue to support these folks, you are complicit as well. Nothing virtuous here.
Your present day litmus test for stopping to help someone who has been injured by a predator is your responsibility to vote to select your leaders. If you don’t vote or you vote for someone that will not improve your community, you might as well just keep walking because while you may still be able to signal your virtue for whatever reason you can muster up, you are still complicit.
Maybe you don’t value a certain group of your fellow Americans, Maybe you can convince yourself that for whatever reason their problems are just not that important. Regardless of your wealth, your influence, or your popularity within your tribe, you are complicit in the suffering of your fellow Americans. After voting for liberals for decades Mexican Americans and African Americans are figuring it out. Liberals from Hollywood to DC are not shy about expressing their disdain for their fellow Americans and their courage in fighting from day to day, paycheck to paycheck for a better life. It’s time to reject this philosophy. Bruce Springsteen, Julia Roberts, George Clooney, and Oprah Winfrey sipping their Cristal champagne in Hollywood are just not the sort of people that built this country and made it great working their butts off for just enough to keep their families fed, clothed and housed. There is no longer value in actors pretending to be something else. Hollywood is no longer relevant.
It’s time to join your fellow Americans in stopping the destruction of our country. You are only complicit if you want to be.
