Bringing the Border Crisis Into the Real World

Segment # 164

The border crisis is obscene, and it is all the Biden Administration’s doing. Illegal migrants are receiving free housing, free medical care, free food, and free cell phones while our citizens, who are desperately in need, are being ignored. Our cities are being trashed along with our educational systems. This video is worth a listen.  I also recommend the YouTube video below that tells the story of Arizona rancher George Kelly who will be forced to walk away from his ranch and home which are now marginally saleable because law enforcement and border control can no longer guarantee his safety. How much US soil will be controlled by the cartels is a debate and concern in the coming months and years.

On Wednesday, Rep. Lisa McClain questioned witnesses on the immigration crisis on the Southern Border during a House Budget Committee hearing.

According to the sources provided, there are varying estimates of the annual cost to taxpayers for migrant services under the Biden Administration: The House Homeland Security Committee's report claims the cost could be as high as $451 billion per year, citing research from the Center for Immigration Studies.1The House Budget Committee hearing cited an estimate of $150.7 billion per year from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).3President Biden's proposed 2025 budget includes a $4.7 billion emergency contingency fund to aid the Department of Homeland Security in responding to potential migrant surges at the border.4 However, this is a one-time fund rather than an annual expenditure. The White House states that Biden's 2024 budget proposal includes nearly $25 billion for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an increase of $800 million over 2023 levels for border management and immigration enforcement.2So while there are varying estimates from different sources, the House Republican reports cite annual costs ranging from $150 billion to $451 billion for migrant services under the Biden Administration.13 The White House budget numbers focus more narrowly on funding for border security agencies like CBP and ICE.

How much has the Biden administration spent annually on homeless vets?

Based on the provided sources, the Biden Administration has taken the following actions and allocated funding to address homelessness among veterans annually:

  • The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provided over $3.1 billion in 2023 under the Continuum of Care program to support homeless services and housing programs, which will also benefit homeless veterans.14

  • The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) awarded $11.5 million in 2023 for a new Legal Services for Veterans Grant Program to provide legal representation and services to homeless or at-risk veterans.14

  • The Department of Labor awarded over $58 million in grants in 2023 to help homeless or at-risk veterans find jobs, receive training, and reintegrate into the workforce.134

  • The VA exceeded its goal of permanently housing 38,000 homeless veterans in 2022 and was on track to exceed that same target again in 2023.15

  • In 2022 alone, the VA housed over 40,000 homeless veterans, prevented over 17,700 veteran families from becoming homeless, and helped nearly 191,700 additional veteran families retain their homes or avoid eviction.5

While no single annual figure for all homeless veteran services is provided, the sources highlight major investments by the Biden Administration in 2022 and 2023 through HUD's Continuum of Care funding, VA housing and homelessness prevention efforts, legal aid grants, and employment assistance grants totaling billions of dollars annually.1345
