Nixon Pardon Vs. Biden Pardons

Segment # 331

We are in uncharted waters with unprecedented pre-emptive pardons that the left widely condemned in 2020 but now strongly defend. We do know these pardons might well be challenged . We know the pardons only cover federal offenses so all those that have been pardoned are, like Trump was, subject to State prosecutions. We also know definitively that these federal pardons strip those pardoned from 5th amendment protection for testifying in those cases. So if one of these pardoned lies they are subject to perjury charges. Should be interesting

The Nixon, Hunter Biden, and Biden family preemptive pardons differ in several key aspects:

  1. Scope and timing:

  • Nixon's pardon: Covered all offenses committed during his presidency (1969-1974)

  • Hunter Biden's pardon: Covers potential offenses from January 1, 2014, to December 1, 2024

  • Biden family pardons: Cover potential offenses from January 1, 2014, to the end of Biden's presidency (January 20, 2025)

  1. Specificity:

  • Nixon's pardon: Broad and unspecific, covering "all offenses against the United States"

  • Hunter Biden's pardon: Similarly broad, covering any federal crimes "he committed or may have committed"

  • Biden family pardons: Less specific, covering "nonviolent" actions

  1. Context and motivation:

  • Nixon's pardon: Issued by Ford to address the Watergate scandal and its aftermath

  • Hunter Biden's pardon: Issued by Joe Biden to protect his son from potential future prosecution

  • Biden family pardons: Issued to prevent "baseless and politically motivated investigations"

  1. Recipients:

  • Nixon's pardon: Covered only Richard Nixon

  • Hunter Biden's pardon: Covered only Hunter Biden

  • Biden family pardons: Covered multiple family members, including siblings and in-laws

  1. Historical precedent:

  • Nixon's pardon: Considered highly unusual and controversial at the time

  • Hunter Biden's pardon: Compared to Nixon's in its breadth and unusualness

  • Biden family pardons: Unprecedented in their scope and number of family members covered

In summary, while all three sets of pardons are preemptive and broad, they differ in their specific coverage, recipients, and historical context. The Biden family pardons represent a unique case of multiple family members receiving preemptive pardons simultaneously.
