Met Gala Descends to Absurdity

Segment # 430

Megyn Kelly Declares "The Met Gala is Dead" and Calls Out Obscene Nudity and "Rosa Parks on Crotch"

Self awareness has finally died a cruel and horrible death defined by what some call the Met Gala. If I were the director of the Met I would smile, take the money raised and require all staff and curators to wear bags over their heads to avoid any questions on what just happened. For the sane that are members of the board of directors, I feel your pain and support your decisions to distance yourself from this embarrassment for the art world and for one of the most important museums in the world.

The theme this year is 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' - based on Monica L. Miller's 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. It is meant to pay homage to black dandyism, a style with European roots which started post-Emancipation and came out in full force during the Harlem Renaissance……

Anna Wintour Description of the Evening

When asked 'how do you use fashion to create allyship?' a stoic Wintour responded: 'I think fashion is a language, like music is a language. 'And its a global language, so I think an event like tonight will have a global resonance. 'We have guests coming from all over the world so whether you're in India, in Asia. 'Sorry, Japan or Europe or whatever, there will be many people here that you will know and recognize. 'So I think trying to reach everyone with the important message of this event is so important.' Fans were left baffled by the answer with one writing: 'She made us dizzy without telling us anything.' Others wrote: 'She has no idea what party she’s at. She still had all day to have it written out for her. But love that he got something that resembled an answer. 'she didn’t answer the question though. 'Did she answer the question? Allyship?'

Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, has presided over the Met Gala since 1995

Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and global editorial director of Condé Nast, has been the driving force behind the Met Gala since 1995, serving as its chairperson or co-chairperson (except in 1996 and 1998). Her role involves overseeing the event’s organization, shaping its vision, and transforming it into a global cultural phenomenon. Specifically, her responsibilities include:

  • Event Leadership: Wintour chairs the Costume Institute Benefit (the Met Gala), a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, which she has elevated from a society dinner to a star-studded spectacle raising millions annually (e.g., $31 million in 2025).

  • Guest List Curation: She personally curates the exclusive guest list of 450–700 attendees, blending celebrities from fashion, entertainment, sports, politics, and, recently, social media influencers. Her influence ensures a diverse, high-profile crowd.

  • Theme and Dress Code Oversight: While the Costume Institute’s curator (e.g., Andrew Bolton) selects the exhibition theme, Wintour collaborates on the event’s dress code and aesthetic direction, ensuring alignment with the exhibit (e.g., 2025’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” with dress code “Tailored for You”).

  • Outfit Influence: Wintour advises on and sometimes approves celebrity outfits, though she clarified in 2025 that she doesn’t have final say on every look. She consults with attendees, like co-chair Colman Domingo, who shared his 2025 look with her for approval.

  • Fundraising and Cultural Impact: Under her leadership, the Gala has become the Costume Institute’s primary funding source, surpassing $200 million by 2019. She’s credited with making it a pop culture event, likened to the “Super Bowl of red carpets.”

At the 2025 Met Gala (May 5, 2025), Wintour co-chaired alongside Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, with LeBron James as honorary chair. She arrived in a Louis Vuitton ensemble designed by co-chair Pharrell Williams, featuring a blue coat, silver embroidered dress, and a notable aquamarine heart brooch, aligning with the “Tailored for You” dress code.

Wintour’s influence extends beyond logistics; she’s shaped the Gala’s global reach, exclusivity, and media impact, enforcing rules like the no-phone policy (though some, like Tyla, broke it in 2025). Her meticulous planning, starting years in advance, ensures the event’s status as “fashion’s biggest night.”
