Legacy Media Changing Course?
Segment #623
For those of you old enough to remember Walter Kronkite you realize that there are no journalists that have earned the trust of the American people in quite teh same way. The bias is easily provable even without reviewing the Trump wins over CBS and ABC. It is a new and very different world. And now enters Bari Weiss known as a maverick as proven by her work at both the Wall Street Journal and New York Timnes. Weiss has a 10 point plan which she sent to all those at CBS. Not all are happy. I take that as good news.
Paramount announced it is acquiring The Free Press, the independent news and commentary website founded in 2021 by Bari Weiss. As part of the deal, Weiss will also take a new role at CBS News as editor-in-chief. Weiss describes herself as a centrist and is known for pushing back against what she calls “woke” orthodoxy in mainstream media. PBS take from Amna Nawaz discussed more with Oliver Darcy.
Mark Halperin opens today’s show with his reported monologue dissecting the legacy media meltdown over Bari Weiss’s appointment as editor-in-chief of CBS News. He unpacks the internal uproar and the outrage from many of the same type of left-leaning journalists who once drove Weiss out of The New York Times — and explains why she may be CBS’s best hope to rebuild credibility and profitability. His message for staffers unwilling to embrace change: quit.
