Congressional Investigations - Big Deal?
Segment # 285
The Republican House was very active in pursuing their investigations in the last Congress. But what was achieved? Certainly some public awareness was a planned goal of the Republican controlled House. And maybe we did get to know some of our representatives a bit better. Did we see much important legislation from this effort. Not really. Shumar in the Senate killed most of which was passed by the House. So the one consequence of all these investigation that was sought was accountability. And because Congress really has no significant power to enforce laws, the House was powerless to punish any of the many people they learned had abused the system. So what was achieved? We got a clear road map of what is going to happen starting on January 20th. And that will certainly justify the expensive foundation that was laid by Congress during the last session. Since Trump will control the Executive branch which includes the DOJ and the FBI, there are many people that appeared in the last Congressional session that will be seeking legal advice.
House Investigations 2022 - 2024
Congressional investigations have been a major focus of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives since the 2022 midterm elections. Key areas of investigation from 2022 to 2024 include:
Biden Administration Oversight
Investigations into President Biden, his family, and administration officials
Examination of the Afghanistan withdrawal
Scrutiny of the Department of Homeland Security and border policies
Private Sector Investigations
Big Tech and social media companies, particularly regarding free speech concerns
Universities, focusing on antisemitism, DEI initiatives, and foreign donations
Financial institutions, examining ESG investing and coordination with law enforcement
Pharmaceutical companies
China-Related Investigations
Chinese ownership of U.S. farmland
Security risks in the maritime sector
Federal grants to Chinese-affiliated researchers
Other Key Areas
Energy production and climate change policies
COVID-19 origins and pandemic response
"Woke" ideology in corporations and education
IRS practices and potential politicization
The House Oversight and Accountability, Judiciary, and Ways and Means committees have been particularly active in these investigations. The divided government has led to increased use of investigations as a political tool, with Republicans using their subpoena power and ability to call hearings to advance their agenda
What are the consequential results from these investigations
The House investigations from 2022 to 2024 have led to several consequential results:
Impeachment Inquiry: The House formally authorized an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, directing the Committees on Oversight and Accountability, Ways and Means, and Judiciary to continue their investigations
University Scrutiny: Investigations into universities expanded, focusing on issues like antisemitism, disciplinary proceedings, DEI initiatives, foreign donations, and tax-exempt status
China-Related Investigations: Multiple committees launched probes into Chinese influence, including ownership of U.S. farmland, security risks in the maritime sector, and federal grants to Chinese-affiliated researchers
Technology and Social Media: Ongoing investigations into concerns about censorship by technology and social media companies, including their coordination with the federal government
Financial Sector Oversight: Investigations into financial institutions regarding ESG investing, retirement security, index funds' exposure to China, and coordination with federal law enforcement
DOD Inspector General Report: The House Administration's Subcommittee on Oversight uncovered evidence suggesting the Department of Defense intentionally delayed the deployment of the D.C. National Guard on January 6, 2021, contradicting the DOD Inspector General's report
Ethics Referrals: The Office of Congressional Ethics made several referrals to the House Ethics Committee regarding various representatives, including Ronny Jackson, Wesley Hunt, Troy Nehls, and Jamaal Bowman
Private Sector Impact: The investigations have put pressure on various industries, potentially affecting their practices and public perception
These investigations have significantly shaped the political landscape, influencing public discourse and potentially impacting future legislation and policy decisions.
So all the above is like a sports program and a game plan to identify the players and how Congress and the Executive Branch will attack the abuses of the past. And haven’t you heard Trump will just go after his political opponents for no justifiable reasons (who would ever do that?). Those of the left that broke no laws have nothing to fear. Trump would need to be President for two more trips to clean up all the agencies, departments, and crooks that are now available to be exposed.
